英語圏のシン・ゴジラ批評は？

今英語圏の、と言ってもヒットして出てくるのはアメリカばかりですが、シンゴジラ批評を読んでいます。

ファンとといふか、マニアといはうか、とにかく日本人と共有する感覚を持つのですね。安部公房や三島由紀夫や村上春樹の読者も同じなのでせう、ファンといふものは。以下、複数の映画評の中から、アメリカの限定公開がどのやうな結果になるのかを考へる資料として、そして質の良い批評を三つ選びました：

A Terrifying, Definitive Masterpiece: "Shin Godzilla" Review (SPOILER FREE VERSION)

Hello, my fellow Godzilla fans.

Over the last week of July, I was blessed to be able to make an unbelievable and extraordinary pilgrimage to Japan, the Land of Godzilla. The trip was the journey to end all journeys, and I was able to see and do some incredible things that I never thought I would EVER get to do. From dining with genre veterans Akira Takarada and Hiroko Sakurai to visiting Daiei and Toho, and from meeting my heroes at Ultra Fest to shopping at Akihabara and Nakano Broadway, it truly was a full mind, body, and spirit emersion into kaiju culture.

Part political drama, part allegorical horror film, and part old fashioned creature flick, Shin Godzilla is a remarkable achievement. It has broken new ground in the series, and, although it honors the origins of the character, and feels very much like a Godzilla film, it has truly left the old world of Godzilla behind. Trust me when I say, you have NEVER seen a Godzilla film like this before.

前半を読むと、これはもう、聖地巡礼の心境ですね。これが、アメリカ人でもコアな、怪獣（これもそのままKaijuといふ英語になっていました、どの映画評のウエッブサイトでも。Tsunamiと同列に並んでゐました）ファンは、上のやうな感想を持ってゐると考へて良いのではないかと思ひます。このセンスはそのまま、ポケモンGOに通じてゐますね。そして、ゆるキャラの澎湃たる登場にも。

上の引用の後半部分の感想は、どの批評にも共通してゐたものです。大東亜戦争の敗戦、東北の津波と大地震、それによって惹き起こされた福島の原発の事故。アメリカ人は、この３つをシンゴジラに見てゐます。

それから、日本に住んでゐるアメリカ人の少年二人の対話型の感想がYouTubeにのつてゐました。やはり、ここでもnot traditonalなゴジラだと、理解されてゐます。この二人、ゴジラを見るために日本に住んでゐるんぢゃないかといふ感じがする位です。

シンゴジラは”not traditional Godzilla”という日米双方の共有する理解をもとに、これからの世界中のシンゴジラ評を読むのは、ありだと思ひます。勿論、これだけが全てではないけれども。

他方、この評者もバランスのとれがアメリカ人で、次のやうなコメントをレヴューの最後に付してゐます。大体最後に付記するといふのが、本音を表してゐます：

On a more personal note – From everything I’ve read, seen translated, and heard from westerners (insiders who also happen to be fans) who have seen the film, I’d say SHIN is very much a reflection of modern-day disasters for Japan, and how they deal with tragedy. That may seem obvious, but it should drive home the point that this film isn’t being made for us western fans, it’s being made for the modern Japanese public. So far, all signs point toward a film the Japanese will embrace, and western fans perhaps will scoff at as “boring” and “political”. As fans, we’ve got to try and remain grounded, though – I am still very cautiously optimistic for this film, and have very mixed-feelings going in. Perspective, however, is key.
